Race report Cadwell Park 2012

Cadwell Park Race report from Thomas Moseley
Rounds 3&4 of the BRSCC Mighty Minis Championship.
A good early start up at 4.30am on this Sunday morning
Arriving at my one of my favourite tracks the Lincolnshire country cadwell park track was dry and there was a cold brisk breeze.
Final preparations done and a traffic jam as 26 Mighty Minis queued up to get through the 7.50am safety and scruiteneering tests.
Qualifying
Then we were second session out for a very early Qualify session.
I was steady as the tyres took a few laps to get up to a pressure and temperature the car handling became better the more laps I did.
There was a couple of early incidents and some crashes in qualifying which gave rise to some yellow flags which cost of couple of flying laps as we only have one 20 minute qualifying session.
I was lying in 6th place until the last 3 laps when I was pipped as I managed to post a 2.00.695 which was 10th fastest from 26 cars. I felt good getting in the top ten again.
Race 1
As the red lights went off I made a good start and was level side by side for 9th place heading into the bottom of the hill at coppice but this put me on the left hand side of the track for the next right hander, I had to concede 9th back and in doing so I was lined up and taken by Greg Jenkins and was back in 11th.
A few laps went by and I got into my rhythm and was catching back up into the hairpin but struggled getting into third gear and lost another place to James Goodall Now in 12th.
Up the hill again and a good run towards the back of James saw me pass back for 11th and I soon caught up the Caroline who was now in 10th behind Greg.
We saw a mistake by Kit Stevens ahead and he lost a few places so I knew I could get back up into the top ten the leaders still in my sights.
Caroline and Greg were battling in front of me and I took advantage of this passing Greg to get me into a 9th place spot 1 lap before the end and was not quite close enough to catch Caroline who finished ½ a second ahead of me for 8th.
I felt I had battled well and no damage is always a bonus.
Race 2
A few fixes new brake pads and a repaired selector with help from Mick at Minisport
Starting in 9th I was on the other side of the track and was feeling confident.
A reasonable start saw me remain in 9th for the first couple of laps but this race was far closer and faster than the first everyone was bunched up for a few laps and we were in groups of 3 or four cars It was very exciting and close racing through every part of the track.
Kit Stevens came flying past from 13th and made progress ahead causing me to brake early and get overtaken again.
I drove consistent faster laps and set a 2.00.188 half a second faster that qualifying and held on to the back of 3 cars for 12th place finish but 9th quickest in this race.
Overall a good weekend and I was pleased as I beat my own personal best race lap by a second and I was 9th quickest overall the weekend and only a 10th or 2 of 8th quickest.
More improvements to come for Castle coombe in 3 weeks.

last push for cadwell
After discovering a fault and some excessive play on the front left wheel .Thomas and Lee spent all night trying to repair the top arm bush.
It appears that the bearing is the problems and we need a spare from Minisport .
Thomas should be able to ge these fixed on Thursday and the car should be good to go
More updates soon

Cadwell Park
Thomas is really looking forward to cadwell park.
We have a few more bit to fix on the car before she is ready but we will make it.
All welcome this coming sunday for 4 great Mini Races.
Cadwell park is sited across a steep-sided valley, giving rise to dips and crests. The circuit features sharp changes in gradient, including one section called The Mountain where bikes can become airborne by up to several feet. Its mix of challenging corners has led to its nickname as the Mini-Nürburgring.

Race Report Donnington
Race report, donnington by Thomas Moseley
Donnington to me is a new circuit so I used qualifying to get to know the track.
During qualifying I found myself alone and struggling to find the pace, I gave myself a few slow sighting laps at the beginning of quali, so that I could try and throw in a few good laps later on after getting to know the track.
I felt like I had probably managed to get in one or two good fast laps however the results showed otherwise, setting lap times 3.2seconds slower than pole which sat me mid field in 16th place from 15 cars.

After finding out the results of qualifying I decided to look at the performance of the car, I checked everything on the engine that I could all seemed to be in order, however my tappet settings where too wide so I changed them from 14 thou to 12 thou.
also we used some tracking gauges to check the wheel alignment only to find that too was way out, with not long to go before the race a friend of mine kindly helped me adjust the tracking to what we needed.
RACE:
At the start of the race I managed to get a jump of the line but it was evident that I didn’t have enough power to keep the momentum as other cars began to pull away from me, I found myself in a battle with Simon Tuckley for 17th. Simon is a great racer and we found ourselves overtaking each other several times a lap until eventually I managed to break free of him after and an overtaking move put his car on the wrong line. After which I found myself alone again for a few laps beforel chris slade 2011 mighty minis champion who had come off the track caught me up, me and chris began a mini battle overtaking each other 3-4 times per llap for about 5 laps chris but chirs was a Lap behind me so these overtakes where not for position this continued until the very end of the race with chris sitting his car half a bonnet infront of mine at the finish line,

With all cars accounted for I found myself in 13th position overall.
I think we still have a few power issues that will need to be rectified before cadwell park on may the 13th ……. I am looking forward to cadwell as it is one of my favourite tracks.
